Workout at Home, the Gym or the Park

In the past, if you wanted to get yourself fit and have access to a range of fitness equipment you had to get yourself down to your local gym. For many, the gym is an exciting place to meet challenges and breakthrough barriers, but for many exercisers, the gym itself is an overwhelming challenge and barrier. So what are your alternatives?

Benefits of Working Out at my Studio

For many clients, actually going somewhere to workout helps them get into the zone, which helps them have a more productive workout. Another benefit is space – Not everyone has space at home to comfortably workout or indeed wants to have to create a workout space.

Benefits of Working Out at Home

You can work from home, you can shop from home but one of the best things you can do from home is to improve your health. I’m not talking about a few half-hearted press-ups or crunches as you wait for your porridge to ping in the microwave, but me, as your actual personal trainer coming to your door armed with all the tools to bring your fitness goals to fruition. That’s right, actually to your door so no more lugging yourself down to the gym. But other than the obvious major convenience factor, there are lots more benefits of home personal training.

1) You’ll learn how to use all kinds of equipment. If you’ve had a sneaky look at other people in the gym doing all kinds of gymnastic moves on the Gym (Swiss) Ball, or expertly using the foam roller to ease their hamstrings, you wouldn’t be alone. Some people just seem to have ingested the book called 101 Ways With Every Piece Of Gym Kit Imaginable, whilst you are still working out how to turn the treadmill on! When you hire me as your home personal trainer, I will get you exercising with all kinds of portable equipment. So if ever you do make then it to the gym, it’ll be your expert moves that others are checking out.

2) You’ll be more honest. How much exercise do you do, what’s your diet like, how often do you drink? These are all questions that any Personal Trainer worth their salt will be asking you. And, let’s admit it, the odd little fib might slip out. With personal training, being completely honest is going to get you much quicker results, and in your home environment (scene of most of the eating, drinking and lounging on the sofa) you’re more likely to be truthful which will help everybody.

3) It can aid recovery and rehabilitation. Home personal training is the fitness equivalent of buying the supermarket’s ‘extra special’ version of a product. Unlike the regular or no-frills version, the extra special offers that little bit more, in this case, individualised fitness training in the comfort of your own home. Times when you might need to go extra special include after injury or illness, maybe after an operation that is going to need specialised personal training to work specific muscles for recovery. It could be after giving birth or just after a period of inactivity. Going extra special with home personal training can help you to get back to your regular choice.

4) You’ll build fitness confidence. It’s easy for us to say, get out for a walk or go for a run in your local park but if your fitness confidence is at zero that’s like taking a car out for a drive with no petrol – it’s just not going to go anywhere, or if it does it’ll soon break down. Home fitness training is brilliant for filling up your confidence tank, so you feel strong enough physically, mentally and emotionally to get out and about and active. Not all home personal training will be done at your home as you might also exercise near where you live at say, a local park. Doing this with your Personal Trainer right by your side can give you the confidence to also train on your own. Little steps lead to big results.

5) You’ll see things in a whole new light. As a personal trainer, I am great at creating workouts with whatever kit is available. On the tube, in the park and in your home, you’d be surprised by how I can come up with new workouts from ordinary items. Like your stairs, AKA the stair jump training zone, or the sofa transformed to the sofa dips exercise area. Your garage will become a boxing ring and your lounge a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) studio. Of courses, I’ll be bringing exercise equipment with me too. Having me as your home personal trainer makes you see beyond the idea that exercise is only for the gym and you’ll soon adopt the mindset that exercise is something that can be done anytime, anywhere and with pretty much any equipment that you have to hand.

Benefits of Working Out Outdoors (Garden, Park, etc)

1) It lowers blood pressure and reduces stress

Studies have shown that physical activity outdoors lowers a person’s blood pressure and heart rate. As a result, exercise outdoors feels less strenuous than similar exercise indoors, which, in turn, pushes you closer to your maximum performance. Train outdoors, push yourself to the limit and keep breaking your personal record!

2) Sunshine

When training outdoors, you can also enjoy the benefits of sunshine. Fresh outdoor air and natural light invigorate and provide more energy for the mind and body. Sunshine provides the vitamin D that we need, you will get a suntan while training and the sun will lift your spirits! Sunlight also enhances energy generation in the muscles and oxidation of the tissues.
When training outdoors, take account of the possible harm caused by excessive sunlight, such as dehydration and sunburn. So don’t forget protective sunscreen and hydration while training outdoors!

3) Variation of Workouts

Break the routine! Perform your indoor workout outdoors and include movements such as body-weight exercises, which are easy to do outside. Most body-weight exercises are multi-joint movements and therefore super effective! A body-weight workout will enhance your coordination, balance and mobility in particular.

4) Vary your regular training environment

Leave the stuffy and dark gym behind and do your workout in a fresh and bright setting outdoors; enjoying the multiple benefits of an outdoor workout. Cities offer a multitude of workout venues. Exercise parks, sports fields, stairs and exercise areas along jogging trails provide a range of opportunities to diversify your workout and explore new training places.

5) Can Help with Insomnia

When you exercise outdoors, you get fresh air which helps to alleviate insomnia. Regular exercise and fresh air will help you to fall asleep and improve the quality of your sleep!
